Learning Levels and Gaps in Pakistan (World Bank Policy Series, 2006)This paper reports on a survey of primary public and private schools in rural Pakistan with a focus on students' achievements. Absolute learning is low compared to curricular standards and international norms. As in high-income countries, bivariate comparisons show that higher learning is associated with household wealth and parental literacy. Bilateral Support to Primary Education - Dept. for International Development (DFID, UK, 2010)This report focuses on DFID’s support to primary education in developing countries and what it has achieved against the criteria of pupil enrolment, course completion and attainment. The report also uses indicators to assess the extent of efficiency and cost-effectiveness in delivery. Sustainability and Equity: A Better Future for All (Human Development Report, UNDP 2011)This report focuses on the challenge of sustainable and equitable progress. Environmental degradation intensifies inequality, through adverse impacts on already disadvantaged people, and inequalities in human development amplify environmental degradation. Quantitative Impact of Conflict on Education (UNESCO, 2011)This study examines the impact of armed conflict on the population of 25 countries, finding substantial negative effects of exposure to conflict on educational attainment and literacy. Conflict often leaves an unfortunate legacy for the affected generations: smaller shares of the population with formal schooling, fewer average years of education and decreased literacy rates, which persist over time. Furthermore, in many countries existing gaps between marginalized groups, such as women, and the rest of the population worsen during conflict.
Education in PakistanAn Education Emergency in Pakistan threatens tens of millions of children. The country has the second lowest school enrolment rate in the world. As the largest education non-profit in Pakistan, TCF is working to improve the situation.
